Easter Story Eggs

Growing up I remember my grandma and various church teachers using similar Easter eggs to tell the story about Christ. I liked having the different items and how they went along with the Easter story. Years ago I made one with my sister's help and decided I would create a tutorial so anyone can make their own set. I love using this story, especially now that my oldest is 4. It is a good way to remind all of us of the true meaning of Easter, but it is simple enough that kids can follow along.

For this project you will need:
12 - plastic Easter eggs
1- piece of card stock
1- thimble or sacrament cup
3- dimes
1- small piece of twine (I didn't have any so I just used a piece of raffia)
1- chunk of soap
1- piece of red velvet or fabric
2- tooth picks (make them into a small cross)
1- small nail
1 - pair of dice
1- bag of crushed rocks or soil
1- strip of white cloth
1- bay leaf or other spice
1- small rock
1- 12 count egg carton (optional)

First, click on the image below to open the document. Print it out on a piece of card stock with your printer. If you don't have a printer you can write it all out by hand, but that might take awhile. (The print button is toward the top left corner when you open the document)Once you have the word strips printed or written out you will to cut them apart. (I used my paper trimmer.) You will have 12 word strips when you are finished.

Separate your word strips and the item that goes with each into 12 different piles. Here are pictures of the items that I used; the number in the corner of each picture corresponds with the numbered word strip it goes with.

Once you have your 12 piles. Put each pile (word strip and item) into a plastic egg like this.
You can use an egg crate to store the eggs. But I have also seen people put them in baskets too.

When you are ready to tell the story, hand out the eggs to everyone and follow the numbers in order to tell the story. Have each person read their part and show the item that was in the egg.

This is a wonderful way to keep the true meaning of Easter part of you celebration.
